Counselling

A Healthier Mind to Achieve a Balanced Life

What is counselling?

Counselling is a relationship of trust where the Client feels able to discuss feelings, beliefs and thoughts that may be causing distress.

A Counsellor does not offer advice, but rather works with the Client so that he or she feels more able to make decisions and choices that will lead to positive changes in the Client’s life. The Counsellor will offer an opportunity for the Client to express and explore stressful feelings in a way that emotionally involved family and friends may find difficult.

A Counsellor will offer complete confidentiality in an unbiased way.  The only time that this is questioned is when the Client may pose a significant risk of harm to themselves or to others and this will be discussed with the Client.

The Counsellor and Client will work together to enable the Client to learn the skills to recognise current and future problems, in order to deal positively with the psychological distress that  they cause.

What to expect

Sessions are 50 minutes in duration.  In the opening five minutes Julia will introduce the session and the remainder of the time will be yours to talk about any problems or difficulties that you may be facing.  Discussions will take place in a safe, non-judgemental and totally confidential setting.

The final part of the session will be spent clarifying any issues that have been discussed and how you and Julia together can develop changes and turn problems into goals.

The first session is offered as an introduction to the Counselling experience and to establish if Counselling is the right approach for you.  This first session is set at an introductory rate of £20.00.

If it is decided that further sessions will be of benefit and help you towards an understanding and improvement of any difficulties, then each following session will be charged at £30.00.

The time that you spend with Julia will give you an opportunity to discuss in absolute confidence, any issues that are of concern to you.  Her approach is non-judgemental and you will have the opportunity to describe thoughts, feelings, events and situations in a way that is comfortable for you.

Julia will look at your concerns with you and how, together, you can start to alleviate the distress that they cause.

If at any time you do not wish to continue, then this will be respected.  Should you wish to return at any future time, then you will be welcome to do so.

Julia’s approach is person-centred which gives you the freedom to express any emotions that you may be feeling.  She uses an integrative approach that may use several different models of Counselling so that your work with her will be specifically tailored to you as an individual.

The aim of working with Julia is to reduce your emotional distress so that you feel empowered to go on to lead a more contented and fulfilling life.
