What is Medical Pilates and Rehabilitation?

Please Note: Pilates services are on hold at present

Medical Pilates is an holistic exercise system designed to rebalance the body by improving posture, strength, core stability, flexibility and balance. It targets both the mind and body teaching controlled functional movement of the core muscles connecting to the spine, pelvis and shoulders.  It also teaches breathing techniques, visualisations and improved body awareness.

Pilates was first developed in the 1920’s by Joseph Pilates who designed a series of exercises for professional dancers that used both mental and physical techniques to condition the body and improve postural alignment.

Medical Pilates has since combined these traditional Pilates movements with knowledge from Physiotherapists, Physiologists and fitness experts to provide a unique clinical approach to Pilates.

Medical Pilates is highly recommended by a number of Health Care Professionals and with its unique clinical approach makes it particularly beneficial in the prevention and rehabilitation of many injuries and conditions such as back pain, shoulder conditions, arthritis and osteoporosis.

It has also been used by many sports people to help enhance performance through correcting muscle imbalance, increasing muscle length and improved functional movement.
